This Box Will Steal Your LIFE..

99% of television is crap. I stopped watching television regularly back in 1981 and over the years have maybe gotten into five or six shows that I thought were worth watching. ‘House’ and ’24’ being two that come to mind. Even then I can catch them online so I don’t have to sit through commercials.

Movies.. I can catch those in the theater or DVD.
News.. I get it faster and with less bias Online.
Ads.. If I want something, I get better info on a product/service if I research it Online.

Let’s look at the person who watches ‘only’ 2 hours of TV a day, on average through the week. It’s been 11,315 days since 1981. At 2 hours of TV a day, that’s 22,630 Hours spent watching TV instead of living Life. That’s roughly 943 24-Hour-Days of a person’s life GONE they’ll never get back.  Equal to 2.5 YEARS spent non-stop just watching TV. The way I see it.. I’ve been busy enjoying and exploring life an extra 2.5 years over this TV watching person.

What would anyone give to have an extra 2.5 Years added to their life? Too late about the past.. but for the future? Considering the crappy programming a person gets in exchange for their time (their Life, really).. it’s just not worth it.

What about you? Will your last thought on your death bed be, “I wish I’d spent more time watching TV.” or… I’m so glad I turned off that damn box and went out to explore the world around me. Hiking, doing hobbies, visiting friends, raising my children, etc.”

You only get one shot at this. It’s your decision. What will you choose?

  1. The big difference I see between Net time and TV time is 'Interaction' and 'value'. The Net is something you interact with and, depending on how you surf.. you can learn SO much about the world, science, technology, relationships, cooking, places to visit, new ideas.

Television never had education as it's prime-objective. Television quickly fell into the model of 'Entertainment' so as to draw in higher prices for the ad-spots. This is why there is so much Crap on television. It's not about providing a quality show.. it's about throwing anything and everything up on a channel to see what whackness people have a fetish for.. and then promoting the hell out of that. My God, "Jersey Shore"? Really? I'm going to give up hours of my LIFE for that shit?

The Net is the opposite model.. provide free services people will want to use.. and then charge for the ad-space. Facebook is a perfect example of this.. free, yet providing value to the user. 🙂

  2. I go to sleep with the TV on, it keeps me company…(I know) I agree with you on going to explore the world, but I must make it to work by 8 a.m. I am cable-educated and I consider it bubble-gum for the brain…. I have no guilt eventually I will pack all my shoes and go around the world to find something to match…. Big hug, stay wonderful!
