Went to see it last night in a VERY nice state-of-the-art theater in L.A. (Rave). Visual FX are great, but not overboard. As much as I enjoyed ‘Wrath of the Titans‘, the FX on ‘..Titans‘ kinda wore me out. Maybe I’m just getting old. (?) With “Snow White..” the FX were used judiciously to make for a good scene rather than ‘be’ the scene. ‘Snow White..’s story is very engaging. I would dare go so far as to say I was on the edge of my seat at times. Although I felt the movie should have been titled, “Snow White & the Bitchy Queen” because other than a supporting role, the Huntsman really isn’t all that pivotal to the main story. The story really is about the tension between Snow and the Queen. I won’t give away the ending, but the Huntsman’s role becomes eclipsed by the time all the dust and obsidian shards have settled.
I also kept trying to count the Dwarfs after one of them got killed. Were there 8 and then now the famous 7?.. or were there 7 and now only 6? Another thing that confused me was trying to remember if ‘Snow White’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’ are two different characters. After all, Snow ends up becoming a sleeping beauty in this film. Another thing.. this, in my opinion, is NOT a movie for kids under 13 who only know the Disney version. Unless you feel they’re ready for maggots, psychedelic hallucinations and dark-ages imagery of poverty, disease and war. I’ll leave that up to you.
All in all.. as a movie for adults it was worth the price of admission and, thankfully, not a deusch-bag-glitter-dripping love story like that OTHER film Snow White did.
